Indian women’s cricket star and Women’s World Cup 2025 hero Jemimah Rodrigues has opened up about a terrifying childhood incident that nearly turned tragic. The batter revealed that she suffered a near-death experience when she was just eight to ten years old – an episode that left her family fearing the worst.

Speaking in a recent interview, Jemimah recalled how a moment of childhood play quickly escalated into a life-threatening accident.

Jemimah Rodrigues Recalls Falling From the First Floor As A Child

Jemimah Rodrigues revealed that the incident took place during a church program at an auditorium. Like many children her age, she was playing games with her cousins and friends outside the venue.

The game, known as “chappal fight,” involved throwing slippers at each other – a harmless activity until one throw went out of reach.

Recalling the incident, Jemimah said one of her cousins threw a slipper that landed near a wooden structure. Determined to retrieve it, she volunteered without hesitation.

“I said, ‘Wait guys, I will go,’” Jemimah Rodrigues recalled.

She climbed onto a box to reach the slipper but lost balance and fell straight from the first floor of the auditorium.

What happened next shocked everyone present. Jemimah revealed that her cousins momentarily believed she had died, as she disappeared from sight after the fall. However, a stroke of luck saved her life. “Someone was sitting downstairs and eating food. I fell on her head,” Jemimah said. The accidental cushioning prevented what could have been a fatal impact, allowing her to escape without major injuries.

Despite the severity of the fall, Jemimah walked away with no serious harm – something she and her family still consider nothing short of miraculous.

A devout Christian, Jemimah has often spoken about faith playing a central role in her life, and this incident further strengthened that belief for her and her family.

Now 25, Jemimah Rodrigues has gone on to become one of the biggest stars in Indian women’s cricket. She played a historic role in India’s Women’s World Cup 2025 triumph, most notably with a sensational 127-run knock against Australia in the semi-final, helping India pull off the highest successful run chase in women’s World Cup history.
