WWE SmackDown Results: The Three Stages of Hell match for the Undisputed WWE Championship took place on WWE SmackDown on January 9, 2025, with Cody Rhodes defending the title against Drew McIntyre. Right after the introductions, Cody rushed at Drew and started attacking him without wasting any time.
The first stage was a regular match. Cody controlled the early part by hitting Drew with a knee to the midsection and a clothesline that sent him over the top rope. Cody followed him outside with a suicide dive and slammed Drew into the announce table. Drew tried to bait Cody by handing him a chair, but Cody refused and kicked him instead. Cody stayed aggressive with the Beautiful Disaster kick, quick jabs, and a Bionic Elbow.
Outside the ring, Cody continued attacking, but Drew turned things around by throwing Cody into the steel steps. Cody landed a Cody Cutter and a German suplex, but Drew survived. When the referee was distracted fixing an exposed turnbuckle, Drew used a low blow and then hit a Claymore. Drew pinned Cody and won the first stage.
The second stage was Falls Count Anywhere. Drew pulled out a table and powerbombed Cody through it, but Cody kicked out. The fight went all around ringside, up the aisle, and into the crowd. Both wrestlers used the steps, barriers, and even the crowd area to hurt each other. Cody bit Drew, smashed a drink on his head, and fought him backstage.
Drew regained control briefly, but Cody fought back and laid Drew on a table near the stands. Cody climbed up and hit a massive frog splash through the table. Drew kicked out again. Back near the ring, Drew used a chair and tried to finish Cody, but Cody countered. Cody hit Cross Rhodes through the announce table and pinned Drew to win the second stage.
The third and final stage was inside a steel cage. Cody attacked Drew against the cage walls while Drew struggled to stand. Both men traded big moves, including suplexes, DDTs, Cody Cutters, Cross Rhodes, and Claymores. Near falls kept coming as neither man stayed down. Cody even hit a Cody Cutter off the top of the cage, but Drew kicked out. Both tried to escape the cage, stopping each other repeatedly.
As Drew crawled toward the cage door, a hooded man appeared and attacked the referee. The man was revealed to be Jacob Fatu. Fatu stopped Drew at first, then attacked Cody as well. With Cody hurt, Drew managed to crawl out of the cage and hit the floor.
Drew McIntyre won the match and became the new Undisputed WWE Champion. After the match, Cody recovered enough to attack Jacob Fatu and slam him into the steel cage as the show ended.

Randy Orton Segment
Randy welcomed Berlin to SmackDown. Trick Williams interrupted, claiming 2026 as his year. The segment ended with Randy hitting a hanging DDT on Trick after a brief brawl with The Miz and a fist bump with Rey Fenix.
Rey Fenix vs Trick Williams
Both men traded moves and near falls. The match featured high-flying attacks, kicks, and counters. Trick Williams picked up the win.
Giulia vs Alexa Bliss – Women’s United States Championship
Giulia and Alexa exchanged strikes, suplexes, and near falls. Kiana James and Lash Legend interfered. Giulia hit the Northern Lights Bomb to retain her title.
Wyatt Sicks vs The MFTs
Loa, Lumis, Gacy, Tama Tonga, Talla Tonga, and Solo Sikoa battled with corner attacks, clotheslines, and finishers. The MFTs took control of the lantern after the match.
Carmelo Hayes vs Shinsuke Nakamura – United States Championship
Both men traded technical moves, strikes, and signature finishers. Carmelo Hayes retained the US Title after hitting Nothing But Net. Post-match, Hayes and Nakamura showed respect with a handshake.
Royal Rumble Qualifying Matches Announcement
Nick Aldis announced four qualifying matches for Saturday Night’s Main Event leading to a WWE Championship match at the Royal Rumble:
