Netflix has released a brand-new trailer for Stranger Things season 5 Volume 2, and it promises a wild, reality-bending ride just in time for the holidays. The next batch of episodes will stream in the UK on Boxing Day, adding some dark twists to the festive season.
The trailer builds on shocking moments from the Volume 1 finale, including the long-awaited return of Eight, also known as Kali, played by Linnea Berthelsen. It also confirms an unexpected alliance between Max (Sadie Sink) and Holly (Nell Fisher), who are both trapped together.
Max and Holly find themselves stuck in a strange, dreamlike realm ruled by Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower). His terrifying plan appears to involve the rest of the children of Hawkins, but Max is not giving up. She is determined to break free from Vecna’s control and return to her physical body.
This twist thrilled fans who have waited a long time to see more of Max’s story. It also makes one thing clear: there is far more to the Upside Down than anyone realized. Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) even suggests that “everything” the group thought they knew so far may be completely wrong.
Back in the real world, Dustin and the others are putting their own plan into action to stop Vecna. One standout moment in the trailer shows Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) asking Eight for help in finally destroying their powerful enemy.
Eight’s return is especially notable, as she has not been seen since season 2, which followed Eleven leaving Hawkins to find herself. That episode remains the lowest-rated chapter of the series on IMDb, but the creators are standing by their decision.
Series co-creator Ross Duffer has called Kali’s comeback a bold move and said she will play a “really important role” in what’s to come.
The trailer also continues to tease possible major character deaths. Fan favorites Dustin and Steve (Joe Keery) are seen heading into yet another dangerous situation, with one emotional line standing out: “If you die, I die.” Fans can catch all of this and more in the new Stranger Things season 5 Volume 2 trailer. The episodes will release on Christmas Day in the US and on Boxing Day in the UK.
