In the MI W vs RCB W opener of WPL 2026 on January 9 in Mumbai, Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the toss and chose to bowl first against Mumbai Indians. The match began after a grand opening ceremony featuring performances by Jacqueline Fernandez and Honey Singh at the DY Patil Stadium.
Mumbai Indians opened their innings with Amelia Kerr and G. Kamalini. RCB made a strong start with Lauren Bell bowling a maiden over. MI scored their first runs in the second over through Kamalini, who hit two boundaries off Linsey Smith. Bell then provided the first breakthrough by dismissing Kerr for 4, caught by Reddy, leaving MI at 11 for 1 in the fifth over.
Kamalini continued to score, taking on Smith with multiple boundaries, but MI suffered another setback when Nat Sciver-Brunt was stumped by Richa Ghosh off Nadine de Klerk for 4. Shreyanka Patil was then struck by Kamalini’s bowling for 32, reducing MI to 45 for 2 after eight overs.
Harmanpreet Kaur tried to steady the innings but was dismissed for 20, edging De Klerk to the wicketkeeper. At 80 for 4 after 13 overs, MI needed acceleration. Sajana and Nicola Carey provided momentum in the middle and death overs. Sajana attacked Radha Yadav and Arundhati Reddy, hitting fours and a six to push the score past 100.
Sajana played a quick knock of 45 off 25 balls before being caught off De Klerk. Carey continued the charge and reached 40 off 29 balls but was also dismissed by De Klerk in the final over. De Klerk finished strongly, taking key wickets at the death.
Mumbai Indians ended their innings at 154 for 6 in 20 overs. Nadine de Klerk was the standout bowler for RCB, removing Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet, Sajana, and Carey at crucial moments.
