Sameer Minhas during his knock against India U19

Sameer Minhas produced a stunning performance in the Under-19 Asia Cup 2025 final against India on Sunday, December 21, at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai. The right-handed batter was at his dominant best, smashing 172 runs off just 113 balls after India chose to field first.

Pakistan lost Hamza Zahoor early, but Minhas steadied the innings with Usman Khan. The pair added 92 runs for the second wicket, during which Minhas reached his half-century in only 29 balls. His aggressive batting helped Pakistan cross 100 runs in just 12.3 overs as Indian bowlers struggled to contain him.

After Usman’s dismissal, Minhas continued his onslaught with Ahmed Hussain. The duo stitched together a massive 137-run partnership for the third wicket, pushing Pakistan firmly into control of the final. Minhas brought up his century in just 71 balls and later reached 150 off 105 deliveries without slowing down.

In the process, Minhas recorded the highest individual score in the history of the Under-19 Asia Cup finals. He went past Sami Aslam’s 134 against India in 2012 before eventually being dismissed for 172, an innings that included 17 fours and nine sixes. Pakistan were cruising at 302 for four when he departed in the 43rd over.

Who is Sameer Minhas?

Sameer Minhas was born on December 2, 2006, in Multan. He has progressed steadily through Pakistan’s age-group cricket, representing Multan Region Under-13s, Southern Punjab Under-16s, and Multan Under-19s before breaking into the national Under-19 side.

He first caught widespread attention earlier in the tournament against Malaysia, where he scored 177 not out on his Youth ODI debut. That knock was then the highest individual score in Under-19 Asia Cup history and also became the highest score by a Pakistani batter in Youth ODIs, surpassing Shahzaib Khan’s 159 against India in 2024.

That innings was part of a massive 293-run partnership, one of the biggest in Under-19 ODI history. Known for his calm temperament and clean hitting, Minhas is seen as one of Pakistan’s most promising young batters.

Cricket also runs in the family. His elder brother, Arafat Minhas, has already played four T20Is for Pakistan at the 2023 Asian Games and has featured for Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League.
