India’s young batting star Yashasvi Jaiswal suffered a major health scare on Tuesday and had to be rushed to the hospital. The left-handed opener was admitted after experiencing severe stomach cramps following a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match between Mumbai and Rajasthan in Pune.

Jaiswal was taken to Aditya Birla Hospital, where he was diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis. Despite his condition, the 23-year-old managed to score 15 runs off 16 balls as Mumbai successfully chased down a target of 217.

A report has now suggested that the illness was caused by something Jaiswal consumed at the hotel where he was staying in Pune.

“It is food poisoning. He ate something in the Pune hotel, which has led to this. There was pain, but his condition is much better after timely medication. He has lost over 2 kg already in the last two days, and the doctors have asked him to rest for at least the next 7–10 days,” a source was quoted as saying by TOI.

Due to the health setback, Jaiswal could miss the opening matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the domestic one-day tournament that begins on December 24.

“It will be touch and go for the first few matches for him to turn up for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. There are ODIs against New Zealand after that, and he is likely to be in the squad for that series,” the source added.

Jaiswal had reportedly been dealing with stomach cramps throughout the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match, with his condition worsening once the game ended.

At the hospital, doctors conducted an ultrasound and a CT scan before providing medical treatment. He was later advised to continue his medication and take sufficient rest.

In the match itself, Mumbai pulled off a thrilling three-wicket win over Rajasthan in their Super League Group B clash. Ajinkya Rahane played a steady unbeaten knock of 72, while Sarfaraz Khan produced a stunning cameo of 73 off just 22 balls.

Rahane scored his 72 from 41 deliveries, hitting seven fours and three sixes. Sarfaraz went on the attack from the start, smashing seven sixes and six fours in another successful chase of more than 200.

Chasing 217, Mumbai stayed aggressive despite losing wickets regularly and eventually sealed the win with 11 balls to spare, with Rahane holding the innings together.
