Disney just signed a deal with OpenAI and invested $1 billion in them. And honestly, this could completely change how we watch Disney content in the future.
Basically, this deal lets Sora — OpenAI’s video model — create videos using Disney characters. Like, actual Marvel heroes, Pixar characters, Star Wars creatures, even those classic animated icons we grew up with. So we can also imagine Sora being able to make some entirely new characters for our favorite franchises
The most interesting part about this deal is, Disney isn’t keeping all of this away from the eyes of the fans. They are planning to openly drop AI-generated videos right on Disney+. Not full movies or anything, but curated little videos that Disney approves and puts out for fans.
So now, there is a real possibility that we might see a short Star Wars creature clip, or a completely AI-generated marvel moment that never existed in the movies or any animated shows. All of this content will be generated by AI, but will still have to operate under the given guidelines for Disney to actually release it.
However, it doesn’t mean AI is replacing real filmmakers or animators. It just means that Disney wants to put out more content for the fans to enjoy. And this will most likely be creative content in between the big projects.
