Did Iran Declare War on US Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian speaks during a press conference in Tehran, Iran

Did Iran Declare War on US? Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has declared that his country is facing a “total war” from the United States, Israel, and Europe, saying the pressure on Iran today is even more complex than past conflicts like the Iran-Iraq War.

In an interview published by Iranian state media on December 28, 2025, Pezeshkian said the combined actions of Washington, Tel Aviv, and European nations are aimed at destabilizing Iran. His remarks come at a time when Tehran is strengthening ties with Hamas, nuclear negotiations remain stalled, and regional tensions continue to rise after recent military clashes.

“In my opinion, we are at total war with the United States, Israel, and Europe,” Pezeshkian said. “They don’t want our country to remain stable. They want to bring our country to its knees.”

He described the current pressure on Iran as multi-layered, involving economic sanctions, military strikes and diplomatic isolation. According to him, this situation goes beyond the challenges Iran faced during the 1980s Iran-Iraq War. His comments were made just ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s meeting with US President Donald Trump, adding to the already tense regional atmosphere.

Did Iran Declare War on US: Recent military escalations

The strong rhetoric follows a 12-day direct conflict between Iran and Israel in June 2025. The fighting began after Israel carried out strikes on Iranian military, nuclear, and civilian targets. Iran said more than 1,000 people were killed in those attacks. Tehran responded with missile strikes on Israel, which reportedly killed 28 people.

The United States later carried out airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities. Pezeshkian admitted that Israel had superior missile capabilities during the clash but said Iran has since improved its military readiness and is prepared to respond decisively if attacked again.

Did Iran Declare War on US: Ties with Hamas

Iran continues to maintain close ties with Hamas, in line with its long-standing support for the group. Recent reports have pointed to speculation about Iran’s growing influence within Hamas leadership, including discussions around senior leader Khalil al-Hayya possibly becoming head of its political bureau. However, no official confirmation has been made.

These developments come as Iran stresses the importance of its so-called “Axis of Resistance,” a network of allied groups across the Middle East. Iranian media have also reported ongoing regional strain, fragile ceasefire efforts in Gaza, and talks about relocating Hamas leaders to friendly countries such as Tunisia.

Pezeshkian’s remarks underline Tehran’s defiant stance as nuclear talks remain frozen and coordination between the US and Israel strengthens under President Trump. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has issued similar warnings, rejecting calls for surrender and warning of “irreparable damage” to any aggressor.

As 2025 draws to a close, the situation adds new uncertainty to global efforts at de-escalation, with risks of further proxy conflicts linked to wider Middle East tensions and developments related to Ukraine peace talks.
