Deepti Sharma

Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma has created history during the third T20I against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram on December 26, 2025. The 28-year-old became the first player in women’s T20Is to register over 1,000 runs and 150 wickets, underlining her status as one of the most complete all-rounders in the game.

Returning to action after missing a match due to fever, Deepti made an immediate impact as India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, sealed a 3-0 lead in the five-match series. India had earlier dominated the first two T20Is, winning by 8 wickets and 7 wickets, respectively. In the third match, Harmanpreet won the toss and chose to bowl, with India restricting Sri Lanka to 112 for 7.

Needing just two wickets to reach the milestone, Deepti delivered a brilliant spell of 4 overs, 18 runs, and 3 wickets. Her performance matched Renuka Singh Thakur’s best figures of the series and made both bowlers joint leading wicket-takers with four wickets each. India went on to win the match by 8 wickets, clinching the series with two games still remaining.

Deepti’s spell not only triggered a Sri Lankan collapse but also took her to 151 T20I wickets, equalling Australia’s Megan Schutt for the most wickets in Women’s T20 Internationals. Her economy rate of just 18 runs conceded highlighted her control and consistency with the ball.

Deepti Sharma T20 Journey

Deepti made her T20I debut against Australia in Sydney on January 31, 2016, after her ODI debut against South Africa in Bengaluru in November 2014. In 131 T20I matches, she has scored 1,100 runs in 81 innings at an average of 23.40 and a strike rate of 104.26, including two half-centuries. Her best batting performance came against the UAE in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup in October 2022, where she scored 64 off 49 balls as India won by 104 runs.

With the ball, Deepti has taken 151 wickets in 128 innings at an average of 18.73 and an economy of 6.09. Her best bowling figures of 4 for 10 came against the West Indies in November 2019, a match in which India chased down the target without losing a wicket and Deepti was named Player of the Match.

This rare double of 1,000-plus runs and 150-plus wickets sets Deepti apart in T20 cricket. With the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in England and Wales from June 12 to July 5, 2026, her form sends a strong signal about India’s title ambitions.
