Daryl Mitchell is a cricketer from New Zealand who plays in all formats for the national team and competes for Canterbury in domestic cricket. He is the son of former New Zealand rugby player and coach John Mitchell.

Alongside cricket, he worked as an assistant strength and conditioning coach with Waikato Rugby from 2018 to 2020. He also played rugby at the school level during the winter off-season.

In 2021, Mitchell received the ICC Spirit of the Cricket Award. The award was given for his decision not to take a run after realizing he had obstructed bowler Adil Rashid during a tense semi-final match between New Zealand and England in Abu Dhabi. In June 2022, he was shortlisted for the ICC Player of the Month award along with Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root.

Daryl Mitchell made his Test debut for New Zealand in 2019 as a replacement for Colin de Grandhomme. He scored 73 runs in his first Test innings against England. He scored his first Test century in 2021 against Pakistan in Christchurch. He scored his first ODI century in March 2021.

Mitchell scored an unbeaten 72 against England in the T20 World Cup semi-final in 2021. He scored three Test centuries during New Zealand’s 2022 tour of England. He scored a quick fifty in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final against Pakistan. He averaged 54.53 in first-class cricket in the season after his debut.

Daryl Mitchell is married to Amy Mitchell. The couple got married in 2017 and have been together since then. He often shares photos with Amy, which has made fans curious about their relationship.

Daryl and Amy first met in 2014. What started as a friendship slowly turned into a relationship. They dated privately for almost three years before deciding to get married in 2017. She keeps her personal and professional life private, and not much is known about her work

The couple has two children. Their first daughter, Addison, was born in 2018. Their second daughter, Lily, was born in 2020.

Daryl Mitchell Contract

Daryl Mitchell was offered his first New Zealand central contract for the 2021–22 season. The offer came after strong performances during New Zealand’s home summer. He stepped in for Colin de Grandhomme, who was injured, and made an impact across all formats. During this period, Mitchell scored his maiden centuries in both Test cricket and ODIs and also contributed with the ball.

New Zealand selector Gavin Larsen said that Mitchell had taken his game to another level and fully deserved the contract. The contract was part of a 20-man central list announced by New Zealand Cricket. Under the agreement between New Zealand Cricket and the players’ association, Mitchell and the other selected players had until May 22 to accept the contract, which officially began on August 1.
