Ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Team Morocco has received a major boost, as  Achraf Hakimi’s injury recovery shows positive signs. Recently, there was a social media image circulating, showing that the Paris Saint-Germain star was seen without a surgical boot on his left foot.

Hakimi is currently regarded as one of the best right-back players in world football. He suffered an ankle injury during a UEFA Champions League match in November after a reckless tackle by Luis Diaz. Although Diaz was sent off, Hakimi was forced off the pitch, raising serious concerns over his availability for AFCON 2025

The 27-year-old, who was recently named in the 2025 FIFA Best XI, arrived in Morocco accompanied by PSG’s medical staff and has continued his rehabilitation under close supervision. Multiple reports suggest that he could return to light training later this week. This news offered real hope to the Atlas Lions.

On the other hand, the head coach of the Moroccan team has made it clear that no risks will be taken with the captain. This could mean that Hakimi might miss a few initial games against Comoros, Mali, and Zambia, all set to be played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Hakimi’s presence is crucial for Morocco, which is chasing its first AFCON title since 1976. Despite being Africa’s top-ranked team and arriving in the tournament on an incredible 18-match unbeaten run, recent AFCON history has been disappointing.

With passion from the home ground and the potential return of their inspirational captain, Morocco are once again strong title favourites. If Achraf Hakimi is declared fully fit in time for the knockout stages, it could be the decisive factor in the Atlas Lions’ quest to finally lift the AFCON trophy on home
