Alex Carey’s maiden Ashes century turned into one of the most emotional moments of the series, as the Australian wicketkeeper-batter paid a silent tribute to his late father after his century.
Alex Carey scored 106 runs during the third Ashes Test. Carey punched the air and looked up to the heavens, while his wife, Eloise, was left in tears in the stands.
Carey’s innings carried deep personal significance, as it was his first century since the passing of his father, Gordon, who died in September following a battle with leukaemia.
After performing this brilliant innings, Carey described the innings as a “special moment,” admitting it was hard to put emotions into words.
Carey also revealed that his father played a huge role in shaping his cricketing journey, coaching him through his early years and continuing to guide him even as he grew older.
During the third Ashes Test, Carey’s 106 off 143 balls rescued Australia from a tricky position after quick wickets post-lunch. Crucial partnerships with Usman Khawaja and the lower order helped Australia reach a fighting total of 326 runs.
