Australian women’s cricket team captain Alyssa Healy has announced her retirement from all forms of cricket. The 35-year-old shared the news on the Willow Talk podcast, saying she will retire at the end of the upcoming India series. She said the decision was not easy but felt it was the right time to step away from the game.

Healy explained that her decision was affected by both physical and mental factors. She spoke about the mental strain of the past few years and said they had been more draining than anything else. She also mentioned ongoing injuries and admitted that her motivation to keep playing at the highest level was no longer the same.

Her final international assignment will be against India. India are set to tour Australia for three WT20Is, three WODIs, and a one-off Test between February and March. Healy will not play in the WT20I matches but will take part in the ODI series. She will then end her career with the one-off Women’s Test at the WACA, starting on March 6. She also confirmed that she will not be part of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England in June.

At the international level, Alyssa Healy has been part of Australia’s ICC Women’s World Twenty20 and T20 World Cup-winning teams in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020, and 2023. She also won the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup twice, first in 2013 and then again in 2022.

In domestic and franchise cricket, Healy won the Women’s Big Bash League titles in WBBL|02 and WBBL|03. She also had long-term success in the Women’s National Cricket League, winning the competition 11 times, from 2007–08 to the 2018–19 seasons.

On an individual level, Alyssa Healy was named ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year in 2018 and 2019. She won the Belinda Clark Award in 2019 and was also named Cricket Australia Women’s ODI Player of the Year in the same year. In April 2021, she received the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award. She was also selected in the WBBL Team of the Tournament for WBBL|04.

Alyssa Healy finishes her career with strong international numbers. She played 10 Women’s Tests for Australia, scoring 489 runs at an average of 30.56. In 123 Women’s ODIs, she scored 3,563 runs at an average of 35.98, with a strike rate close to 100 and a highest score of 170. In 162 Women’s T20 Internationals, she made 3,054 runs at an average of 25.45 and a strike rate of nearly 130.

Alyssa Healy’s Personal Life

Alyssa Healy is married to Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc. The two got married in April 2016. Starc has often been seen in the stands supporting Healy during her matches. Their story goes back to childhood, as they first met when Healy was nine years old. They played against each other in club cricket and later played together in representative teams. 

They married in 2016 when Starc was recovering from injury and had withdrawn from the IPL season, where he was meant to play for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Starc has continued to support Healy throughout her career. 

Alyssa Healy also comes from a strong cricketing family. Her uncle, Ian Healy, had a legendary career for Australia. He played 119 Test matches and 168 ODIs and captained Australia to five wins in eight One-Day Internationals.

Alyssa Healy has announced her retirement from cricket and will play her final match when Australia faces India in the last game of the upcoming series. Australia is hosting India for three ODIs, three T20Is, and one Test match, with the series ending after the red-ball game. Healy has played 10 Test matches so far and will retire with 11 Test caps. She has also played 123 One-Day Internationals and 162 T20 Internationals for Australia.

Cricket Australia announced the women’s national contracts for the 2025–26 season on April 17, 2025, with New South Wales players Alyssa Healy, Ashleigh Gardner, and Phoebe Litchfield all securing contracts.
