Virat Kohli became the fastest batter to reach 28,000 runs in international cricket during the first India vs New Zealand ODI at Vadodara. He reached the landmark by hitting a delivery from Adithya Ashok for a boundary. This was Kohli’s 624th international innings since his debut in 2008.

With this feat, Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record. Tendulkar had reached 28,000 runs in his 644th innings, while Kumar Sangakkara took 666 innings. Kohli is now the third player in international cricket history to score 28,000 runs across all formats, after Tendulkar and Sangakkara.

Earlier, Kohli had also been the fastest to reach 25,000 runs in February 2023, doing so in 549 innings, which was 28 innings quicker than Tendulkar. In October 2023, he became the quickest to 26,000 runs, beating Tendulkar by 13 innings. In September 2024, he crossed 27,000 runs.

Kohli ended the 2025 year strongly in ODIs. He scored back-to-back centuries against South Africa and an unbeaten half-century in the series decider as India won 2–1. He later played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring a century against Andhra and a fifty against Gujarat. His run of six consecutive fifty-plus List A scores started in Sydney after he was dismissed for two consecutive ducks for the first time in his ODI career.

In the same match, Rohit Sharma became the first player to hit 650 sixes in international cricket. He reached the milestone in India’s chase of 301 against New Zealand at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara. His 650th six came off Kyle Jamieson.

Rohit scored 26 runs off 29 balls, hitting three fours and two sixes, before being dismissed by Jamieson. Earlier, he had also hit a six off Zakary Foulkes.

Rohit is the only player to hit more than 600 sixes in international cricket. Chris Gayle is second with 553 sixes, followed by Shahid Afridi with 476. Among Indian players, MS Dhoni is next with 359 sixes.

Rohit has hit over 205 sixes in T20 internationals and more than 355 sixes in ODIs, where he recently went past Afridi’s tally of 351. He ended his Test career with 88 sixes, which is the third-most by an Indian batter.

Rohit is also one of only four Indian players to score over 20,000 international runs. In 506 matches, he has scored 20,074 runs at an average of 42.43, with 1,940 fours and 650 sixes. His career includes 50 centuries and 111 half-centuries.
