Drew McIntyre is a Scottish-American professional wrestler. He has been with WWE since April 2017 and currently competes on the SmackDown brand under the name Drew McIntyre. He is the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion, and this is his third time holding the title.
He began wrestling in 2001 in the United Kingdom, working for Scottish promotions such as British Championship Wrestling and Insane Championship Wrestling, and also competed in Ireland with Irish Whip Wrestling. He signed with WWE in 2007, adopted the Drew McIntyre name, and trained in Ohio Valley Wrestling and Florida Championship Wrestling after early appearances on Raw and SmackDown.
He rejoined WWE in 2017 and was sent to NXT, where he won the NXT Championship. After moving back to the main roster in 2018, he won the Raw Tag Team Championship with Dolph Ziggler, the 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble, and the 2024 Men’s Money in the Bank match.
Drew McIntyre Championship Wins
Drew McIntyre has made history in WWE as the only Scottish male wrestler to win a world championship. He is a three-time world champion and has won the WWE Championship thrice. While Nikki Cross has also won a world title, McIntyre remains the only Scottish male to achieve this.
He has won the WWE Championship three times, first doing so in the main event of WrestleMania 36 Night 2, and later captured the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XL. He is the first British and only Scottish world champion in WWE history and the 31st Triple Crown Champion.
Drew McIntyre’s Personal Life
Drew McIntyre first joined WWE as a young talent and was heavily pushed as Vince McMahon’s “Chosen One,” with the idea that he would become a future world champion. Over time, bad booking, loss of momentum, and attitude issues saw him fall down the card. He later became a jobber and was part of the 3MB faction with Jinder Mahal and Heath Slater.
McIntyre has also dealt with serious hearing problems. He has ruptured his eardrum twice during matches. His hearing was already weak, and a doctor later explained that he had unknowingly taught himself to lip-read over the years. McIntyre shared that he realized this during a test when he could not understand speech once the doctor’s mouth was covered.
In his personal life, Drew McIntyre has been married twice. He first married former WWE star Taryn Terrell, known as Tiffany, in 2010, but the marriage ended after one year. He later met Kailyn Frohnapfel, a doctor, in a bar. The two got married on December 10, 2016, and have been together since.
Drew McIntyre Contract
Drew McIntyre is currently signed to a long-term WWE contract, and despite fan concerns about his booking, he is set to stay with the company for several more years. He signed a new four-year deal in spring 2024. According to reports, this contract runs until at least 2028, and with an extension, it could keep him in WWE through WrestleMania 44. After signing the deal, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson gave him a gift ahead of WrestleMania 40.
McIntyre is reportedly earning around 8 million dollars per year, which makes him the fifth-highest-paid wrestler in WWE. This new deal was seen as a reward for his strong performances, especially during the COVID-19 period, when he carried the company as its top star in the Thunderdome era.
Before re-signing, there was talk that McIntyre might leave WWE and possibly join AEW. His past added to this talk, as he was released by WWE in 2014, rebuilt himself on the independent scene and in TNA, and returned to WWE in 2017.
After signing the new contract, McIntyre spoke about the talks and said his main focus was securing his family’s future. He said WWE President Nick Khan and Triple H were understanding and helped sort everything out. He made it clear that he was not planning to leave WWE and felt comfortable committing his future to the company.
