Stranger Things Season 5 Premiere

A petition by Stranger Things fans calling for Netflix to release alleged cut scenes from Season 5 Volume 2 has crossed 90,000 signatures. The controversy is being referred to online as “Cutgate.”

Season 5 Volume 2 was released on Christmas Day 2025 and received mixed reactions. Some fans criticised episodes 5, 6, and 7, raising concerns about Will Byers’ coming-out scene, unresolved plot points, and overall execution.

The backlash intensified after an anonymous source, claiming insider knowledge, shared alleged details of cut scenes through social media. These claims include additional scenes between Will and Mike, a supposed fake-out death for Will, and other story elements. The information was compiled into a widely shared Google document that also links cast interviews and press material to support the claims.

What the Stranger Things Petition Claims

The Change.org petition argues that fans waited a long time for the season and feel the final episodes did not match expectations or earlier hints from the cast. Petitioners say the released episodes do not align with what was suggested during promotion.

There is no confirmed evidence that these specific scenes existed or were removed due to executive decisions. While extra scenes are commonly filmed and later cut in television production, the claims behind “Cutgate” remain speculative and unverified.
